My farming career established its roots on December 14, 2019. Rewind 3.5 years, and you’d find a young specialty welder just beginning his journey abroad on the eastern seaboard, repairing industrial boilers.
Throughout those 3.5 years, I’d traveled as far as the rural mountains of New York state, down the eastern seaboard through West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and last but not least the great state of Texas.
While traveling abroad was adventurous and the money being made was more than satisfactory, there comes a time in everyone’s life where a fork in the road is presented; a point where either one of the choices has exponentially different outcomes in a person’s life. This fork in the road established itself in the fall of 2018. One direction leads to a very successful welding career (already being offered advanced supervision positions) and the other direction is a modest farmer who is home for his family providing healthy fresh food to his family as well as his community.
In 2018 the route was chosen and the modest farming life was in near distance. I put in one last year (the spring and fall boiler season of 2019) and traded money and adventure for God and family. In the spring of 2020, the fields were prepared and chickens set to pasture. Ever since we have been growing and providing quality fresh vegetables, meats, and cut flowers to our family and our community.
